Professional Activities

Dr. Yarian has been in private practice in Nashville, Tennessee since 1980. He offers individual, marital and family psychotherapy; sex therapy; tantric sexuality education; clinical supervision for mental health professionals; and consultation to businesses, hospital staffs and non-profit agencies.

He has made presentations to many lay and professional audiences, on varied topics including death and dying, grief and bereavement, stress management and self-care, sexual addiction, sexual abuse, positive sexuality, sex therapy, family therapy, body/mind psychology, clinical supervision and techniques of psychotherapy. He has also appeared on television and radio talk shows.

Dr. Yarian leads training and educational seminars and workshops around the country. He has led conferences in Wisconsin, Maryland, Kentucky and Colorado for the National Hospice Organization; mindfulness retreats in Hawaii; and Tantra workshops in California, Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina and Oregon.

He is Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychology and Human Development at Vanderbilt University, where he has taught graduate-level courses in Family Therapy. He supervises practicum students, Pre-Doctoral Interns and Post-Doctoral Fellows at the Vanderbilt University Psychological and Counseling Center.

Dr. Yarian has been instrumental in forming or nurturing the growth of several organizations since his arrival in Nashville in 1978. He was Consulting Psychologist at Alive-Hospice of Nashville for six years, as that agency grew from a staff of two to over fifty in that period.

He was a founder of Center For The Family, an interdisciplinary private practice group offering training, supervision and consultation in family therapy. He was also a founder of The Family Therapy Consortium, a training resource for mental health professionals. He was co-founder and Clinical Director of Golden Valley of Tennessee, an outpatient treatment program for sexual addiction.

He has served on the board of the Nashville Psychotherapy Institute, a multi-disciplinary collective of psychotherapists which offers training and educational programs. He co-founded WellSpring Health Services, an integrative medicine clinic offering both Western Medicine and Complementary and Alternative Medicine approaches to treatment.

Dr. Yarian is chair of the Program Committee of the Alliance for Sexual Health, and organized the Tantric Sexuality track at the 2005 and 2006 AASECT national conference.
